The backing has nicks though it stays in place without problems. The paper backing has a hole behind where the picture goes. Brass and decorations are very good.     This is a very intricate stamped / embossed metal frame. It reminds me of a larger tintype made with different metals designed to look like bronze because it is thin and light weight. Very RARE item
